Report to NLAF
The working group met on 29 July 2010 to discuss the Law and Justice Foundation research report on recruitment and retention of lawyers in RRR areas (RRR Report).
The RRR Report was submitted to the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department on 7 June 2010. The Law and Justice Foundation of NSW intends to publish the report in the upcoming months.
The working group has developed a set of recommended actions to address issues raised in the RRR Report. The recommendations fall into four categories:
- Strategic policy initiatives
- Actions of NLAF / NLAF working group
- Actions for individual NLAF member organisations
- Further research and monitoring.
One of the recommended strategic policy initiatives is to host a roundtable to engage key stakeholders in government and the legal profession with the results from the RRR Report and to discuss suggested actions to address the major findings of the report.
Legal Aid NSW is hosting a roundtable discussion that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 22 September 2010. Participants in the discussion will include representatives from the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, Law Council of Australia, National Association of Community Legal Centres as well as members of the working group.
